The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Graduate School, holds an annual orientation for Graduate Instructors/Teaching Assistants. This training typically takes place the week before the fall semester begins.
The purpose of this session is to help prepare graduate students for their teaching assignments and to complement the discipline-specific teacher training that is provided in individual departments. The topics that we will cover are applicable to those who are teaching a class in any discipline and emphasize policies, give practical information, and introduce important campus contacts.
This year we will share classroom techniques for engaging students as well as tools and resources available to new graduate instructors. There will also be opportunities for networking with other graduate instructors.
Some of the topics that will be covered include:
- Management and Associated Resources: Important information regarding class management as well as specific resources and policies which affect both instructors and students.
- Instruction and Associated Resources: Strategies and resources devoted to teaching and learning.
Note: Please bring laptops to the training.
Please join us on Tuesday, August 16th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Johnson Commons East Ballroom. We look forward to meeting with you. Make plans now to attend this valuable training opportunity and don’t forget to RSVP online! A complimentary continental breakfast will be provided.
The Fall 2022-2023 Agenda will be forthcoming shortly.
