What to Do When Racist Crap Happens: Resources for Teaching about Race and Race Relations
The UM Critical Race Studies Group
The Critical Race Studies Group will be presenting a round table discussion that addresses challenges and strategies for teaching about race and race relations in the classroom. The participants include Dr. Zack Kagan Guthrie (Assistant Professor of History), Dr. Heather Allen (Associate Professor of Spanish), Dr. Annie Cafer (Assistant Professor of Sociology), Dr. Kirk Johnson (Associate Professor of Sociology and African American Studies) and Dr. Chuck Ross (Professor of History and Director of the African American Studies program). The panelist will be addressing the following questions: How do we talk about race in the classroom? How are discussions about race relevant across disciplines and fields? How do we teach about race when incidents happen on campus?
